As we enter 2016 and embark upon our new goals and dreams its inevitable some of us will have “Haters” to deal with. A hater is defined as a negative or critical person. Although dealing with a hater is not pleasurable I think everything in life is a teaching opportunity. Here’s a thank you letter for our haters.
Thank you for everything you have done to interfere with my goals and dreams. Thank you for spending your time gossiping about my goals, my dreams, and my past. Thank you for doubting me. I appreciate every negative gesture and every unkind word you spoke about me. I am thankful that I could not count on you. Thank you for laughing at my vision. I am so thankful for your unhelping hand. Thanks for not supporting me. Thank you for your unspoken negativity when I speak about all that I can be and want to be. I cannot thank you enough for what you have done and not done.
You unknowingly taught me many valuable lessons in life and I am eternally grateful.
Lesson 1- You taught me to guard my dreams.
You taught me the value of not sharing my vision with everyone. I learned that every vison has an appointed time and sometimes it’s better to be silent about it. I also learned to never speak negatively about someone else’s goals, visions, or dreams even if my mind can’t conceive their vision, it’s their vision! I learned that my time was most valuable focusing on the present and here and now since you were so busy keeping up with my past…Why should I?
Lesson 2-You taught me to never doubt myself.
My success wasn’t a quest to prove you wrong it was actually a journey to prove me right. Your doubt reminded me that you really don’t know what’s inside of me. You taught me how to encourage myself.
Lesson 3- Your negative gestures and unkind words taught me to stand confident in who I am uniquely created to be.
You helped to “thicken” my outer shell. I am well insulated inside and out. You taught me how to keep grinding in the press. I learned to surround myself with individuals who want to grow. You taught me the danger or remaining stagnant in life. You risks becoming a hater or someone who judges and criticizes people who are bold enough to live out their dreams.
Lesson 4 – You taught me to the value of true support.
Thanks to you I have learned to exercise great discernment of people who are supportive of my dreams and goals. As a result, I have forged many great relationships with people who promote growth.
Lesson 5- You taught me I will never please everyone.
You taught me to direct my focus from pleasing many to seeking the approval of only one.
Lesson 6- You taught me the value of time.
When I think about the time it takes for you to focus on me and my dreams rather than working on you I realize you’re wasting a lot of time. Frankly, my schedule is eternally booked with loving, supporting, growing, developing, helping, sharing and serving others. I’m too busy to keep addressing you. (Just re-read as needed)
As I reflect over every accomplishments, goal, and success in life I am so thankful for the many accidental lessons you taught me. I know that it was not your intention to push me closer to my dreams, goals, and desires but inevitably you did.
