A few months ago my 6 year old daughter, Autumn requested my assistance to help her learn to ride her bike.
With her training wheels off the bike that she once adored had now become the source of much anxiety and fear for Autumn. I assumed that she wanted me to hold her bike steady until she reached her level of comfort.
I was so wrong. She soon informed me that she was going to try on her own but only needed me to be there to watch her. I stood by and watched as Ms. Autumn fell off her bike time and time again. She remained in a great mood. I said to her, “You are doing great.” She agreed and told me that my 14 year old son, her brother had told her earlier that she may have to fall a few times but she would eventually be able to ride.
My heart smiled, this was great advice. She was so focused on the outcome that she anticipated, she expected and accepted the falls.
After numerous falls I finally watched her ride up and down the side walk and couldn’t help but think what a milestone this is for her and it’s all because she was persistent and determined.
Imagine how much we would gain from life if we accepted the falls but continued to press forward expectantly anticipating fulfillment of our hopes and dreams! #Youhavetobelieve
